The State of North Carolina (Department of Commerce, Energy Division) has created a Steam Trap Rebate Program to assist plants in saving valuable steam energy. This is an incentive program available on a one-time basis to emphasize the importance of regular steam trap testing.

Enercheck Systems is an authorized contract vendor and can perform an unbiased steam trap survey. If you would like an application for a State-funded survey, please contact us and we will mail one out to you.  Prospective users of this service may also contact Ms. Starr Brown at the Energy Division (1-800-662-7131) to obtain an application between 7:30 am-12:30 pm Monday through Friday.  After those hours calls should be directed to the Energy Division at 919-733-1895.

Enercheck will provide the following services:

1. Locate, identify and tag all the steam traps located within the facility.
2. Provide steam trap log including such information as operating status, model number, manufacturer, trap type, pressures and a description of trap location (trap map) if one does not exist. A combination of testing methods is used including listening device test, pyrometer method and visual observation.
3. Test and tag, wherever possible, all traps in the facility. Traps that are not operating properly are identified.
4. Instruct authorized plant maintenance personnel on proper testing methods.
5. Note specific problems such as water hammer, improper sizing of condensate return systems and poorly designed piping configurations.
6. Provide report of surveyed traps, including operating status, condition of each trap, those traps needing repair or replacement, and inlet and outlet pressures.
7. Develop a testing schedule for maintenance personnel including a Steam Trap Maintenance Record to assist in establishing a continuing Preventive Maintenance Program.
8. Within 14 days following completion of the survey, submit two copies each of a written Survey Report of the findings and recommendations and a Cost Summary Report which will provide a listing of the cost of steam loss due to defective traps, cost estimates of repairing or replacing defective traps and economic payback period.
